15 audio is the latest incarnation of "Sounds of Music/Metropolis Music" ran for many years by John Jeffries and his father before him who was owner of "Jeffries HiFi" since the 1970's. Since John's retirement in 2010 the company was bought by ex-music recording engineer Peter Woolliscroft and ex-SOM employee and technical manager Brett Hunnisett.
It was clear after many 'golden' years of high-end HiFi activity - seeing ultra-quality custom built products being bought, such as their own 'Lumley' design brand 'Stratosphere' turntable for £20,000+, things were going to change against the background of the financial uncertainties of 2009. Severly diminished was the market for such products and along came new callenges of a more economically minded market that included the latest digital products that could deliver almost as good performance as the expensive analogue turntables but at a fraction of the cost.
15 audio therefore had to change the model and cater for such new products and hence rebrand itself as a modern flexible company to move with the contours of the market. After a period of setting up shop in Lewes, near Brighton the 'footfall' shop concept, due to high overheads, had to give way to a more on-line sales approach with internet customers being more aware of what they want and what they are prepared to pay.
HiFi remains Peter's passion and has now established the company on-line based in Ticehurst in East Sussex for private demonstrations - adding that all important personal service not found easily on the internet. He has also refreshed the range to reflect the latest exciting products now available from a worldwide source.
"Technology has moved on so we have to reflect that in what we are offering - a £5,000 speaker today would set you back £10k+ years ago and established bespoke manufacturers such as Vienna based piano makers 'Brodmann' have a range of speakers finished to the same beautiful standard as their very expensive pianos - for a fraction of the cost but with sonic performance to match." says Peter.
He also is always on the lookout for digital products that go someway towards achieving near perfection of analogue reproduction and he thinks he's found it in T.A.D (Technical Audio Design). "Being from the old school of analogue studio recording, I know digital reproduction should not be a compromise (as it was in the early 80's) and knew TAD as a superb studio monitor manufacturer so any products from them would be top pro-audio quality. And so when they came out with consumer products such as the D1000 SACD/DAC/player, I knew it would be up there with the top-of-the-reference range products - but being a division of the huge Pioneer empire they can make it cost effective and affordable." "It is the most realistic digital product I've heard" says Peter: "..........but don't take my word for it - come and have a listen!"
15 audio also maintains an extensive range of products being a dealer for: AVM; Burmester; BAT; Brodmann; Boulder; CAT; Quadral; Creaktiv; Dali; Music Tools; Renaissance; TAD; Belles and the newly aquired and excellent My Sonic Lab cartiridges taking the place of the now gone Transfiguration. The company also operates the tried and tested 'home trial' scheme they feel that is the only way to really know what works for the customer.
Brett still works for the company with a HiFi repair and service centre nearby and can take on most of the customers repair and service needs.
Peter feels he has the winning formula to cater for the modern HiFi purchaser but is always open to new ideas in the pursuance of the ultimate HiFi enjoyment of music and it is clearly shared with some of his satisfied customers:
"I would like to say how delighted I have been with your service and advice - and am grateful for the very careful setting-up you and Brett clearly did". Mr Lee. (Sevenoaks)
"I really appreciate your generous aftersales support." Mr. Baker (Canterbury)
"Yes thank you Peter. All working well. Thank you for your help." Mr Armstrong (Sussex)
